Visited Applewoods, quite by accident yesterday during their breakfast bar, and left quite full and happy. Best breakfast bar I've been to, and at 62 years old, and I have been to a lot. How anyone could go to their weekend breakfast buffet and give two stars, or anything less then 5, makes me wonder if they work for other restaurants. The atmosphere was pleasant, and everything looked clean. The staff were wonderful in every respect. I live near Charleston, South Carolina which is at least two hours away, yet I will drive by thousands of restaurants, and with gas prices being what they are, spend millions on gas, just to come here for their weekend breakfast buffet. The only problem I have is not being able to give them 10 stars! Seriously, if I were on Death Row, and got to choose my last meal, I would want it from here, hopefully that wont happen, but just in case brought a menu home with me.

My kids love all the different types of pancakes, and I love the all you can eat breakfast bar. Great Southern Breakfast. Very convenient stop for a stay south of MB. Nestled on the south bound side of 17 in Litchfield Beach area.

This is listed as Pawley's Island, but it is in Litchfield right on left side of Hwy 17 north about 30 min. from Myrtle Beach Airport if you are coming up from Charleston, SC. The buffet is ok..not spectacular...everything on the menu is on the buffet...I noticed people that ordered pancakes off the menu got big pancakes vs. the mini three inch ones on the buffet. There is a guy standing at the buffet making omelets the way you want them. The bread pudding was delicious and the bacon was brown and crisp, minimal fat like I like it. Grits was great, sausages a bit hard and dry and chopped fried potatoes kinda soggy soft in lieu of crisp. All in all a decent southern breakfast for $10...Waitress was great.

Huge portions, friendly service and inspirational sayings on the wall don't make up for so-so food. I wanted to rate this place higher but food just wasn't that good. We came for breakfast, family of four, and had Banana crepes, strawberry crepes, pancakes and eggs and a sampler breakfast. The strawberry crepes were the best of the bunch but everything else was off. Banana crepes were over cooked and tasted of baking soda. The pancakes were more of the same. Sausage was over cooked and tough and the ham was over salted. Eggs, grits and gravy were excellent. The staff was very friendly. Loved the kids and took really good care of us. This place would work in a pinch but would not be my first option.

Hit or miss. The food is decent, but there is no reason to give extremely hot plates with barely warm pancakes to a 2 and 4 year old, as they did this morning. The crepes were very runny, which was disappointing, and the omelette only had the mixins laid into it, there was no cohesion in the dish. One waitress was very quick and attentive to her tablea, unfortunately ours was not. I sat with an empty glass for close to 10 minutes. I don't think we will be back.

During our family vacation we've come here a couple of times since they have a large dining room and can accommodate a lot of people. Not much going on aesthetically, just typical brighter colors with paintings around the place. The food is ok, we always enjoy the option of the "food trough" (as my father calls it). The breakfast buffet has a good selection of food, from eggs Benedict, made to order omelettes, and the usual staples such as bacon, eggs, biscuits, etc. To be honest, I've never looked at the menu, but relatives said it was a decent selection, nothing too exciting though. Overall, it isn't anything to write home about, but if you're like me and can work up a monster hunger, the food trough is the way to go.

Rarely do I go to a buffet and enjoy it. But this was an exception. They had everything you could want in a breakfast buffet. Eggs, bacon, sausage and gravy, fruit, yogurt, mini brownies, corned beef hash, an omelet station with anything you could possibly want. But the coup de grace was the pumpkin pancakes. I got an order and my wife and daughter could not keep their hands off! We are definitely going back. Service was also excellent. We had my friends Jamie and Alex and their two kids and did not have an issue.

The service was good. And our server had a smile on her face and did a great job. Food wise it was ok. The French toast reminded me of a hybrid between school or McDonald's French toast and a restaurant French toast. So it was OK. The pancakes where ok which is probably the most disappointing since they are called a pancake house. Eggs where BAD I got scrambled.... DO NOT GET SCRAMBLED. My sis got over easy and they are where done bad. My brother got an omelet and he said it was good. Sister and mom got the waffles and they look good but it's hard to mess up a waffle. Over all of u want breakfast and you can't find a better place to go then this place is ok just be careful what you pick. Like I said in the start service was good so that's nice.

  • Bev L.

Very friendly staff. Prompt service. The food is average - nothing outstanding. Hubby, 2 teen sons and myself stopped for breakfast on the way home from the beach. We ordered pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs and an omelet. The sausage and country ham were hard and inedible. I asked for scrambled eggs with cheese and they came out scrambled with a slice of cheese just laid on top (I wanted it mixed in - didn't realize I had to explain this). The rest of the food was just ok. There were no lines to get in like many other places nearby. Now, I know why.

Extremely please with the character and warm feeling of this little breakfast buffet. They have a menu you can order from or get the buffet to sample a little of everything. Very basic buffet but very worth it for $10 for adults. The staff were very friendly.

Love the buffet! Biscuits and gravy are awesome, and the guy that makes the made to order omelets is great! My husband loves the eggs Benedict which is a regular item on the buffet.

I'm very surprised at the negative reviews; our whole party enjoyed every breakfast served. the crepes were delish; eggs cooked the way we wanted; everything was fresh. We ate here twice while on vacation for 5 days. The second time we had the buffet which was good for a buffet; you could have someone make you a fresh omlet with the ingredients you choose or have eggs prepared any style from the kitchen - still part of the buffet. I mean it's food left warming in heating dishes so it's not as nice as having a plate of fresh food made up just for u, but it is economical and you can take bits of whatever you like. I would definitely eat here again and recommend. We even bought 2 t-shirts to prove we are tourists :) I forgot to mention the great service we had. Servers are very nice.

Awesome!!!! My girlfriend and I have lived In Myrtle Beach for 5 years now and yet to find any great breakfast places around in a 10 mile radius. Most breakfast joints are good but not great.. however this was great!! Our server was wonderful i forgot her name, but she was very knowledgeable of the menu and she had a great personalty.. menu was large meeting expectations of everyone hard to find !! If you don't like this place your probably more of a waffle house type.. which is ok!!

  • K R.

I had the Nutella crepes. My husband had an omlete. We split the biscuits and gravy. We were not impressed with either of our meals. The crepes were waxy and thanks to the Nutella They were edible. The potatoes served with the omlete were clearly old baked potatoes from yesterday with minimal flavor. The biscuits were hard as a rock as the gravy was floury with no flavor. I do not recommend this place. The servers were very sweet and efficient. I suggest getting some new cooks!

  • K. A.

The food style is for the type of person who just wants to "Get it over with." Rubbery ugly food. Good for kids I guess.

    (2)
  • Sean K.

The food was borderline average. My son had chocolate pancakes which he loved but that was the only shining positive. My BLT was light on the bacon and mostly lettuce with orange tomatoes. The service was fine but will be going to eggs up next time.

  • Kellyo O.

For a $9 buffet, it was pretty sad. Everything is bland and all prepackaged food. Seriously, those pancakes came straight out of the freezer pack. There is an omelet station but you MUST ask the one making it to not drown it in the soy "butter" crud or it is disgusting. Very limited toppings to add to your omelet. I would not go back. You are pretty limited for breakfast in Pawley's. I would save your money and eat breakfast at home or in your condo if possible even if it is just fruit or cereal. Pawley's has too many wonderful restaurants to waste even $9 plus tip on this place. They get 2 stars because the omelet station and the cook listened to me about the soy grease.

  • Julia M.

I was so disappointed with this place. The service was not good and the food was just awful. I ordered an egg-white omelette that had spinach, chicken, tomato, and cheese. It was without a doubt the worst omelette I have ever eaten. It was greasy and had the consistency of a fried egg. Plus, it tasted like onion - and it was not supposed to have onion in it. I also got a side of cheese grits. Again, the grits had that icky onion taste like the omelette. I would not recommend this place at all.

  • David M.

this just was not the place I thought it was going to be. I felt like the food was a little uninspired and it looks like it was prepared and just warmed up and put on my plate. On a positive note then wait staff was very kind courteous and attentive. Bottom line if you visit Pawleys Island I would say skip it.

  • Hayes W.

Coming here with a group of 22 people has to be a challenge for any establishment, especially a smaller breakfast place. The staff at Applewood did a great job setting everything up and serving us. the breakfast omlettes are HUGE. My only complaint was the home fry order, really they are just chopped potatoes, not really my definition of home fries. But if you're in the area, swing by here for a great breakfast and friendly atmosphere.

Boy what a mistake. Went here for a late breakfast that turned into lunchtime after a 45 min wait for the food. 4 of us and ordered pancakes, waffles and grits and a Bannans for hubby. Nothing complicated and weren't overly busy. After about 20 min the waitress told us it was coming soon. After another 10 min and seeing folks who came softer us have their food we asked about ours, got lame explanation about pancakes taking longer, when we pointed out the other tables also had pancakes it was the French toast. Then after a few min she came back and said they were working on it now she started talking about how she was new etc, now I don't know what happened, ticket lost or kitchen out to get her or what but it took forever. The when my hubby got the banana it was extremely green and so cold it felt like it must have been in the freezer - he had her take that back. We had been here a long time ago and had a bad experience but decided to give them another try - not again. Way too many other good breakfast places on the Grand Strand.

Ordered the pancakes which were bland and rubbery. Couldn't force myself to eat them.

  • D Y.

We ordered the Southern Benedict which was homemade buttermilk biscuits topped with sausage Pattie and two eggs, sausage gravy and cheese. It said it also comes with fruit, Choice if grits or homefries. We ordered homefries and a side of grits bc grits are good with eggs. It's a southern thing. Service was just ok. It wasn't crowded since it was still early Saturday in this sleepy town. They did have a breakfast buffet set up. Check out the paintings by local artists for sale all over the restaurant! We never got our fruit and didn't realize it til we were about 30 miles into our drive home.

  • Richard K.

I think the local senior citizen artist group collectively threw up in here. I mean that in the nicest way possible. I found it hard to enjoy my delicious French toast with Betty Sue's creppy oil palmetto staring at me. But hey, the food was good and service decent. I bet the early bird crowd brings their own art auctioneer and they have a great time.

  • Ben D.

I ate with a large group (20+) so service was a bit of a challenge for Applewood. It's a nice restaurant and convenient to the golf resort across the street, if you do not want to eat there. It is not at all pricey and the food is ok. I have eaten here twice: the first time I had the Grilled Blue Chicken which was very tasty and the second time I dined on the Greek Salad (no additions), also another good choice. The salad is huge, by the way, with a lot of olives.

  • Rachel B.

Though my in-laws love this place, I have a hard time enjoying the different breakfast dishes I order here. The first time was a skillet which was decent though not extremely flavorful. The second was the pancakes which were terrible (and for a pancake joint, that is really disappointing) and the third time was a mexican scramble/omelette which seemed to come to the table a little cold and the salsa was from a jar. I'm hoping to try the Litchfield Breakfast place down the street. One perk to this place: Babies/Toddlers eat for $3 from the breakfast buffet.

    (2)
  • Anne R.

Breakfast food is very good except I do not like the pancakes. the pancake batter texture is very cakey and heavy. Eggs, omelets very good. Best grits anyplace on the Strand. Reason for 2 star review is cleanliness or lack of. Last few times we've been there, coffee cups were dirty with lipstick stains and food. Silverware same story - not clean. After 3 sets of silver finally got a set that was ok. Salt and pepper shakers, jelly holders, etc on table were all dirty and sticky. This isn't rocket science - just needs attention to detail and they're not doing it. We've been coming to Applewoods for 6 years and are disheartened to see this.

Geat food and value. Service was great. And free WiFi. Will come again.

Denny's and IHOP wept in shame the day Applewood came to town! Everything about the place is top notch! They serve breakfast and lunch. A favorite spot for locals! Beautiful scenery, you can feed the ducks at the pond and wander through the art mall. Anything you order will be phenomenal! They offer a breakfast brunch buffet on Sundays.

  • Mike K.

I had eggs and they were just ok. All the kids did not like the pancakes. Service was good and was very affordable. Would try somewhere else but slim pickings in the area.

    (3)
  • Kate J.

Terrible, the food had little taste and was not hot enough. The pictures in the menu are fabulous but the actual item is a total let down. Typical mass breakfast food, there are a couple of much better local spots just a few miles away that would be much better choices.

  • Ms. W.

Best breakfast/lunch in town and serves Kona coffee. Banana crepes and everything else we have tried are wonderful Owner present every time we have eaten there.

  • Joe W.

Solid breakfast menu, great atmosphere, cheap prices, large quantities, and a friendly staff. If you're in the area, stop by and I'm sure you'll not be disappointed. I was there on Thanksgiving morning and got in and out in no time at all. I imagine that during the tourist season, this place would be a madhouse as it could appeal to anyone.
